Policies

District Policies

The Carmel Central School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or disability.

  • American with Disabilities Act (Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973)

These two laws prohibit discrimination based on disability.  The types of discrimination prohibited include access to educational programs and facilities and denial of a free and appropriate education.

  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

Under the provisions of the Act, parents have the right to inspect, review and have copies made of their child’s records.  They may request changes to the records when they believe information to be inaccurate or misleading.  If you would like to review documents in a student’s records, please contact the main office.

No student who has a physical or mental impairment, which substantially limits one or more major life activities, is discriminated against in programs or activities and is protected under this act.

  • Harassment Policy
  • Internet/Computer use policy

In accordance with the educational mission of the Carmel Central School District, Internet access is available to students. The Internet gives children the capability to receive and transmit text and images, communicate through e-mail, and view and create information by developing reports and presentations.

Elementary students will be supervised as they use the Internet. Nevertheless, it is impossible for us to have total control over what every student tries to access on the Internet. Students and parents are expected to sign an Internet Use Agreement form.  The agreement explains the student’s Internet use responsibilities.

Safety Plans

We recognize the importance of protecting the health and safety of students and staff, as well as ensuring the security and safety of school property. To that end, we have developed an emergency management plan which is on file in the district office.

We also have established a building Safety Team that is responsible for the management of the safety plan.

Drug & Smoke Free

Our school is a Drug and Smoke Free Zone. Smoking tobacco, consumption of alcoholic beverages, and illicit use of drugs and/or possession of any of these substances, is not permitted in school buildings, or on school grounds.
